Critical to the BeltLine's early success is a significant commitment of private charitable dollars to fund greenspace acquisition and trail construction. The BeltLine Partnership kicked off a $60 million capital campaign early in 2007. Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin serves as Honorary Chair, and the campaign is co-chaired by a stellar group of Atlanta leaders:
- Jim Kennedy, Chairman and CEO of Cox Enterprises
- Phil Kent, Chairman and CEO of Turner Broadcasting System
- Herman Russell, Chairman of H. J. Russell and Company
- Ray Weeks, CEO of Weeks Properties Group and Chairman of the BeltLine Partnership.
The campaign is experiencing tremendous success. With Mayor Franklin and the committed volunteer leadership committee at the helm, the BeltLine Partnership has raised more than $28.9 million towards the goal from more than 40 donors, including lead gifts from many of Atlanta’s largest foundations and corporations.
Campaign contributions will underwrite the early development of key parks and trail segments along the BeltLine and demonstrate this project’s potential to transform Atlanta. Private support of the BeltLine campaign will ensure that Atlanta can take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
